{"id":3635,"date":"2012-06-29T23:41:19","date_gmt":"2012-06-29T22:41:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/geoffjones.com\/?p=3635"},"modified":"2012-06-29T23:41:19","modified_gmt":"2012-06-29T22:41:19","slug":"finishing-the-gr10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsite.geoffjones.com\/?p=3635","title":{"rendered":"Finishing the GR10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s time for another walkie \ud83d\ude42 This time it&#8217;s a 113mile stroll, completing the 538 mile\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/GR_10_(France)\">GR10<\/a> trek from the Atlantic coast to the\u00a0Mediterranean\u00a0coast along the French\/Spanish border.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/geoffjones.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Misc_090407_004.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3644\" title=\"Starting GR10 in Hendaye\" src=\"https:\/\/geoffjones.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Misc_090407_004-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Geoff Starting GR10 in Hendaye\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsite.geoffjones.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Misc_090407_004-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newsite.geoffjones.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Misc_090407_004.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I started the walk from Hendaye on the 4th September 2007 giving up at the halfway stage, in totally foul weather, at Bagneres de Luchon on 25th September 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Last year I returned and set out from <a href=\"https:\/\/geoffjones.com\/2011\/07\/10\/thick-cloud-on-the-gr10\/\">Bagneres on the 9th July<\/a> hoping to reach Arles sur Tech, so that I could spend some time with Dave &amp; Susie who had rented a gite there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/photos\/111882957452855371846\/albums\/5634782507835648785\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3637 alignright\" title=\"Yellow train\" src=\"https:\/\/geoffjones.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_3127-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Yellow train\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsite.geoffjones.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_3127-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newsite.geoffjones.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_3127-768x574.jpg 768w, https:\/\/newsite.geoffjones.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_3127.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>However, I ran out of time, so decided to stop at Merens Les Vals (Actually at Ax les Thermes) and save a few days by taking the train \u00a0to the Spanish border at\u00a0Latour-de-Carol where I caught \u00a0the lovely open topped <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ligne_de_Cerdagne\">Yellow Train<\/a> to Villefranche followed by a bus to Vernet . After spending the night. I then walked back up to the GR10 near Canigou and then down to Arles (a tough day&#8217;s hike!).<\/p>\n<p>This year I&#8217;m taking <a href=\"http:\/\/sallyinnorfolk.com\">Sally<\/a> (previously I walked it on my own) to Ax les Thermes to sample the\u00a0sulphurous\u00a0waters and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bains-couloubret.com\/\">hot baths<\/a> before starting the GR10 again at Merens. This time, walking all the way, so we should finish the GR10, arriving at the\u00a0Mediterranean\u00a0in Banyuls.\u00a0\ud83d\ude42 I&#8217;m not taking the tent this year so hopefully the gites\/refuges\/hotels are not to busy!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-align: left;\">Not sure how much blogging etc will get done especially after reading this excellent article by Earl &#8220;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wanderingearl.com\/why-have-travelers-stopped-talking-to-each-other\/\">Why Have Travelers Stopped Talking To Each Other<\/a>?<\/em>&#8220;also some of the refuges are quite remote with no regular phone line.
