I buy my gas and electricity from e.on (was Powergen) they are now doing rather snazzy graphs from my energy bills <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"margin: 10px; float: left;\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2227\/2534666830_3cd7e48174_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"191\" \/>and also calculations of actual CO<sub>2<\/sub>.<\/p>\n<p>They have calculated in 2007 I generated 3.5 tonnes of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Carbon dioxide\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carbon_dioxide\">CO2<\/a> and for 2008 it will be 4.6 tonnes (problem of having additional folks in the house).<\/p>\n<p>Its a far cry from my <a href=\"https:\/\/geoffjones.com\/2008\/05\/23\/hip-hip-dismay\/\">HIPS report<\/a> which thought I should be emitting 12\u00a0 tonnes or if I did all their recommendations 10 tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>They are also using the same measure that Prof. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.withouthotair.com\">David Mackay <\/a>used in his lecture at the Cambridge Science Festival.\u00a0 That is <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Kilowatt hour\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kilowatt_hour\">Kilowatt hours<\/a> per day.<\/p>\n<p>Averaging out the red line (my domestic 2007 combined <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Power consumption\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Power_consumption\">energy consumption<\/a>) gives me a figure of about 95kwh\/d which for 2 people in the house is about 48kwh\/d each.<\/p>\n<p>In his talk he reckoned that UK people use about 125, in the USA about 300.\u00a0 With Heat at 38kwh\/d and light of 4kwh\/d plus gadgets of 5kwh\/d it looks as though his numbers are spot on.
